State 6A Championship Game

The Rams used some timely hitting and the pitching of Brian Flynn and Brandon Bargas to defeat the Moore Lions 5-2, winning the Class 6A State Championship for the second consecutive year.

Flynn (9-1) pitched six innings of 4-hit ball and Bargas saved his third game in the State Tournament. In Bargas’ three innings of relief work during State, 8 of his 9 outs recorded were strikeouts.

Owasso scored 3 runs in the fourth with Joe Spring ’s squeeze bunt and Jarrod Huneryager’s 2-out double driving in runs. Huneryager scored on a throwing error by the Moore catcher.

The Rams added 2 insurance runs in the seventh when pinch-hitter Ryan Wilson singled with one out and Cody Carpenter was hit by a pitch. Ben Kozma then reached on an infield hit to load the bases. With the Moore infield playing back for the double play Ryan Mayfield grounded sharply to the shortstop. Kozma was forced at second but the throw to first was in the dirt and both Wilson and Carpenter scored.

This marks the eleventh time in twelve years that Owasso reached the Championship game. It is the tenth State Championship in school history.

Junior lefthander Austin Kirk pitched 6 strong innings and Brandon Bargas picked up his third save of the year as the Owasso Rams defeated the Enid Plainsmen 6-3 to advance to the Championship Finals for the eleventh time in twelve years. Kirk ran his record to a perfect 7-0 with Bargas striking out the side in the seventh to end it.

Bargas led a 14-hit attack going 3-3 and driving in one. Ben Kozma also had 3 hits. Catcher Joe Spring was 2-4 with 2 RBI while Kirk and Jarrod Huneryager scored 2 times each.

Owasso will play Moore Tuesday evening for the 6A state Championship at L. Dale Mitchell Stadium on the campus of the University of Oklahoma . Game time is 6:30.

Lefthander Ryan Prickett spun a nifty 3-hit shutout, striking out 8, to lead the Owasso Rams to a 4-0 victory over the Yukon Millers. The Rams are one victory away from advancing to the State Finals.

Owasso scored in the first when Ryan Mayfield tripled and scored on Austin Kirk’s ground out. The Rams next 3 runs were without the benefit of a hit. 

Austin Kirk led off the fourth inning with a walk and James Stanfield was hit by a pitch. Joe Spring laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt and all were safe as the Miller pitcher threw the ball away at first. Kirk scored on the error and Stanfield advanced to third. Caleb Compton then “squeezed” in Stanfield.

In the sixth, Austin Kirk struck out but reached first on a wild pitch. Austen Colt, pinch running for Kirk, promptly took second on a wild pitch and caught the Millers by surprise by stealing third as the ball was in still in play but the defense relaxed. Colt then scored on another wild pitch for the Rams final run.

Senior lefty Brian Flynn pitched six innings of one-hit ball and Brian Bargas struck out the side in the seventh for his second save as the Rams defeated Midwest City 2-0 in the opening round of the state play-offs.

Second baseman Cody Carpenter figured in both of Owasso runs leading off the third with a triple and scoring on Austin Kirk’s sacrifice fly. He also drew a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning to provide a big insurance run.

Ram pitching struck out 11; Flynn 8 and Bargas 3.

Senior lefty Ryan Prickett scattered 3 hits and struck out 10 and Brandon Bargas closed out the game, hitting his first homer of the as Owasso defeated Sapulpa 9-0 to secure a spot in next week’s State Tournament

Austin Kirk continued his torrid hitting going 3-3 with 3 RBI and 2 doubles.

Ben Kozma added 2 hits.

The Rams had 12 hits, 6 of which went for extra bases.

Owasso blasted 5 home runs, including two by Ben Kozma and outlasted the Claremore Zebras 13-7 in the second round of the Regional Tournament.

Austin Kirk (6-0) pitched a complete game, but only 2 of his runs given up were earned. He struck out 8 and did not walk a batter.

Austin Kirk and James Stanfield had RBI hits in the first inning putting the Rams on top 2-1. Jarrod Huneryager hit a solo shot to lead off the second setting the stage for an 8-run third. Both of Kozma’s homers came in the third and Austin Kirk hit his fourth of the year.

Caleb Compton’s home run was a solo shot in the fifth.

Both Owasso and Claremore had 13 hits

The Owasso Rams exploded for 16 hits while Brian Flynn and Tyler Sparks combined for a 1-hitter as the Rams blasted the Sapulpa Chieftains 8-0 in the opening round of Regional action at Owasso

Flynn left the game after five innings, allowing no hits, no runs and striking out 9. Sparks pitched the final two innings and struck out 4.

Ben Kozma and Joe Spring each had 3 hits. Austin Kirk, James Stanfield, Jarrod Huneryager and Colby Williams all had 2 hits.

The Rams put together 4 consecutive hits in the first with Kirk and Stanfield’s back-to-back doubles keying the 5 run outburst. They plated 3 more in the sixth with Kozma, Mayfield and Kirk having RBI singles.

The Owasso Rams took a one run lead into the sixth inning but the Kelley Comets exploded for 7 runs in the last two innings and held on for 7-4 victory in the Rams’ regular season finale.

Owasso had scored once in the fifth when Ryan Wilson tripled and scored on Cody Carpenter’s squeeze bunt,  but the Comets took advantage of walks and had the big hits and took 7-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The Rams scored three runs on pinch-hitter Austin Kirk’s double and had the bases loaded with one out, but failed to score again.

Ryan Wilson pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 hits while striking out 7. Tyler Sparks and Ryan Prickett pitched the final two innings with Sparks (3-2) taking the loss.

Nine Owasso seniors were honored and it was a night to celebrate as the Rams scored in each of their four innings while Brandon Bargas allowed just one hit in 4 innings of relief and the Rams defeated Sand Springs 13-1 in 5 innings.

Jarrod Huneryager had 2 hits including his sixth homer of the season to highlight an 11 hit attack. Huneryager, Ryan Mayfield, Caleb Compton and Brandon Bargas each had a pair of hits.

Brian Flynn pitched the first inning in a tune-up start and struck out 3 despite giving up a run without a ball ever leaving the infield. Bargas struck out seven and is now 5-0 on the season.

Austin Kirk allowed just 2 hits and had 3 of his own as Owasso defeated Sperry 9-1 in a clash of No. 1 ranked teams.

It was a packed house at Stigall Field that saw the Rams pound out 11 hits and Kirk toss a masterpiece.

The Rams scored 3 in the first and cruised the rest of the way. Ben Kozma, Joe Spring , Caleb Compton and Jarrod Huneryager each had 2 hits with Spring and Kozma having 2 RBI. Compton ’s base hit in the sixth ended the game.

Kirk is now 5-0 on the season.
